WHY LEGO STAR WARS: THE SKYWALKER SAGA IS SET TO BE THE BEST LEGO GAME YET

The wait is nearly over as Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga blasts its way onto consoles on 5th April! 17 years on from developer TT Games first Lego Star Wars game, you’ll be able to play through all nine Star Wars films for the first time in what promises to be the most expansive and ambitious Lego game ever. As the name suggests, the game is set to be a celebration of the whole Star Wars saga spanning all three eras letting you start from whichever film you choose. There’s a whole lot more that Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga brings to the table, so let’s take a look at what’s got us readying our blasters and igniting our lightsabers in anticipation…

LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga’s new combat gameplay proves there’s really nothing like having a good blaster at your side as you take part in intense immersive shootouts with all new blaster control. This lets you aim down the sights with greater precision as you look to gain the upper hand in some of the Saga’s most iconic battle scenes. There’s even a cover system allowing you to assess the danger and pick off enemies from afar who’ll then react in different ways depending on where you hit them. If you prefer a weapon from a more civilised age, then the new combo chains and counter manoeuvres will help you defeat enemies both big and small. As a Jedi you can even use the force to attack enemies, lift objects and influence others. These new mechanics are all complimented by the all new third person over-the-shoulder camera which is a first for any Lego game and proves to be the real game changer. In what seems a subtle change at first, amounts to a much more immersive shift in perspective as you take control of your favourite characters in some of the Saga’s standout moments. Be it Princess Leia battling off Stormtroopers in A New Hope or even the ultimate showdown between Anakin and Obi-Wan in Revenge Of The Sith, you’ll feel much closer to the action with this fresh perspective.

Free play mode will let you choose from over 300 characters from fan favourites like Darth Maul and Han Solo to some of the more obscure characters like Max Rebo and Salacious B. Crumb. These will be continually unlocked as you play through the Saga, making up the largest character count from any Lego game previously set by Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2. Be sure to be on the lookout for collectable cyber bricks on your journey since these will let you unlock upgraded abilities across nine unique character classes: Jedi, hero, scavenger, scoundrel, bounty hunter, villain, dark side, astromech droid and protocol droid. Acquiring these will allow you to pull off new abilities as your favourite characters, such as unleashing shock grenades as a bounty hunter or using a scavenger’s net launcher to climb up rocky surfaces. If over 300 playable characters wasn’t enough, there will be even more added from other parts of the Star Wars galaxy in the form of downloadable character packs. These will feature characters from the likes of The Mandalorian, Solo: A Star Wars Story and more!

Take your first step into a larger world as you explore all that Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga’s open world has to offer. Free roam has been explored in previous Lego games in the form of hub worlds. Recent titles have pushed these further such as the cities of Gotham and Metropolis seen in Lego DC Super Villains. All this points towards Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga shaping up to be the most complete Lego game yet and one which blurs the line between missions and open world exploration. Jump into hyperdrive with the all-new galaxy map allowing you to travel to and explore iconic planets such as Tatooine, Coruscant & Endor which progressively unlock as you play through the Saga. As you traverse between these planets, you’ll be greeted with unexpected space battle encounters and missions to undertake as legendary ships, from the Millennium Falcon to Boba Fett’s Starship. Once you’re ready, you can then descend to explore planets you’ve always wanted to see more of, be it the bustling cityscapes of Coruscant or the swamps of Naboo. Whilst exploring and veering off the beaten path you’ll come across NPCs allowing you to take on side missions from helping a wampa escape Echo base to bullseyeing womp rats on Tatooine!

LEGO Star Wars the Skywalker saga is set to be the most visually striking Lego game yet, with world’s that feel more alive than ever before and an enhanced game engine to really make the most of whichever console you choose to play on. Small graphical details such as environmental elements like sand and snow clinging to character’s clothing add up to a world which looks to blend the world of Lego with the iconic locales from a galaxy far, far away like never before!
